The most important requirement that modern aircraft structures must meet is the safe, durable transmission of all loads that occur at the lowest possible weight. But these structures need to perform a whole range of other tasks as well. To ensure they are able to do so, a structured development process is conducted that includes all specialist disciplines involved and extends from the initial concepts to the detailed production drawings. The design’s compliance with the specification is verified repeatedly through regular reviews conducted with the customer and all other parties involved. The construction documentation and product data for production are not prepared and released until all issues have been hammered out. These serve not only as design specifications for production, but also constitute an important basis for certification documentation, along with the calculation and test results.
