Senior Stress Engineering (DTR)

An opportunity has arisen within Premium AEROTEC A400M Stress Team in Augsburg, for a number of Lead Stress Engineers to work on various main components of the A400M. You will be involved in the analysis of metallic/composite structures as well as system installations, using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods, ideally with an understanding of aircraft metallic and composites production methods. An understanding of Airbus processes and DTR delegation (training) is man-datory, in order to support development and certification activities.

Tasks

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible, both directly and as part of a team, for ensuring the structural integrity of the A400M main components under Premium AEROTEC responsibility by:

  • carrying out static stress calculations to assess design solutions for a whole range of tasks, ranging from serial design definition to manufacturing concessions, modifications and repairs against the Aircraft Design requirements and certification regulations
  • operating as an approval signatory for stress
  • providing technical leadership and approval for team members and new participants
  • reporting critical technical issues up through functional management
  • controlling of outsourced work packages
  • ensuring fatigue and damage tolerance requirements; providing support to the F&DT department
  • liaising with other functions within the engineering team
  • assisting in the structural design process to help ensure optimised design quality and cost efficiency
  • undertaking, when required, appropriate associated project management tasks

Skills:

As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • substantial experience working as an aircraft stress engineer using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods (>7 years experience in A/C stress analysis)
  • sound understanding of Airbus methods and processes
  • Airbus DTR (signatory level) or aptitude to attain within 3 months of starting in the role
  • ability to rapidly and confidently assess structural problems under pressure and to provide the ap-propriate direction and guidance to team members
  • distinctive interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to develop and coach less experienced stress engineers
  • ability to ensure that solutions are technically integrated across the whole project
  • ability to demonstrate good leadership skills
  • a high regard for both internal and external customers, whilst maintaining Aircraft integrity as the overriding principle

Additional qualities include:

  • Aeronautical or mechanical engineering degree
  • Broad range of standard hand and computer stress analysis tools
  • Knowledge of Airbus tools appreciated (ISSY, PRIMES, SAP applications)
  • Good communication skills and a pro-active approach to problem solving
  • English to advanced level
  • German to good knowledge / advanced level appreciated
